Quality Assurance
The General Medical Council (GMC) promotes and protects the health
of the public by ensuring proper standards in medicine. The GMC
produce guidance on Maintaining Good Medical Practice (www.gmc-uk.org)
which includes the following sections:
Keeping up to date
I am registered with The Royal College of Physicians for Continuous
Professional Development; I exceed the minimum annual credit requirements
every year.
Maintaining Performance
I undertake regular audits of my clinical practice (see Publications)
including: use of mercaptopurine and methotrexate in inflammatory
bowel disease; safety of sedation in endoscopy and quality assurance
in colonoscopy (completion rates, polyp detection & complications).
Teaching and Training
In addition to teaching medical undergraduates from Guy’s,
King’s and St Thomas’ medical school I am responsible
for training Specialist Trainees and Specialist Registrars at
The Kent and Sussex Hospital.
I was the Joint Programme Director for the Specialist Training Committee in Gastroenterology for SE Thames region from October 2003 until 2006
I teach on the accredited endoscopy courses at St George’s
Hospital, London (one of only 5 National training units).
I am an Examiner (PACES for MRCP) for The Royal College of Physicians
of London.
