Clinical Training I attended
Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, West London from
1981 until graduation
in 1987. My post-graduate training
in internal medicine and gastroenterology took place in Charing
Cross, St Mary’s, Central Middlesex, St Thomas’ and
St George’s Hospitals in London and in Kingston, Epsom, Hillingdon
and Harefield Hospitals in the Home Counties.
I spent two years (1993-5) in full time academic study as a research
fellow investigating the relationship between infection with Helicobacter pylori, gastric acid output, duodenal bulb morphology and duodenal
ulcer disease. This work was submitted as a thesis to the University
of London leading to Doctor of Medicine higher degree.
From 1995 until 1997 I worked as Senior Registrar to Dr JJ Misiewicz
and Professor D Silk at Central Middlesex Hospital, London. I completed
my clinical training in dyspepsia, gastro-oesophageal reflux and
liver diseases and developed particular expertise in the management
of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and functional abdominal
conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome.
I was appointed
as Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist
to Kent & Sussex Hospital in spring 1997.
